Learn about A Day in the Life of a 19th Century Domestic Goddess
Westport Historical Society's May program for the Saturday Speaker Series features Teddy Wiberg discussing A Day in the Life of a 19th Century Domestic Goddess. Wiberg's “show and tell” program highlights objects from 1850s, at the Kansas City Public Library's Westport branch, 118 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO. The program will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2-3 p.m.
At this program in the monthly speaker series, Wiberg will talk about what it meant to be a typical mid-19th century "housewife" in western Missouri, and the skills, perseverance and bravery required to both survive and ensure the success of her family. She will demonstrate a spinning wheel and also how to prepare sorghum.
A speaker’s reception will follow the program at the 1855 Harris-Kearney House Museum across from the library, at 4000 Baltimore, Kansas City, MO. Refreshments will be served, and participants can continue the conversation with Teddy Wiberg.
