Flint Hills Masters coming to Flint Hills Discovery Center

The Flint Hills Discovery Center and Strecker-Nelson Gallery have partnered together to present, Flint Hills Masters, the upcoming exhibition at FHDC.

“Our partnership with Strecker-Nelson Gallery has once again allowed us to bring what is the best of the Flint Hills into the Tallgrass Gallery at the FHDC and allow our guests to be surrounded by great interpretations of art,” said Fred Goss, Director of FHDC.

Flint Hills Masters is a collection of paintings and sculptures interpreting a sense of place and love for the regional landscape of the Flint Hills by more than 50 premier artists from around the world. The show opens to the public on Saturday, October 3, at 10 a.m.

“I am most excited about the diversity of vision in the show,” said Nelson. “Each artist has entered works that are typical of their most desirable subject matter, be that Matthew Richter’s native plants or James Borger’s still lifes on the prairie.”

All art in the exhibition will be available to purchase with a portion of the proceeds donated to FHDC. Flint Hills Masters will change out on November 20, at the halfway point of the 14 week show, with new artwork on display.

“Art of and about the Flint Hills is instrumental in raising awareness of the beauty all around us in the tallgrass prairie,” said Jay Nelson, Strecker-Nelson Gallery Director. “As people we preserve and treasure those places we find beautiful, so the Flint Hills exhibits of art are a way to help save our local environment.”

Programs and workshops, sponsored by the FHDC Foundation, take place September-November. Each program features a Flint Hills Masters artist. Upcoming workshops include photography, plein air painting with watercolor and oil demos, student workshops, sketching and journaling.

“Just as important leading up to and in tandem with Flint Hills Masters is a program series developed to complement what our guests will see throughout the show that directly fulfills our mission to experience the eco region, celebrate, explore and care for the landscape we value so highly,” said Goss.

A complete listing of the programs is available at www.flinthillsdiscovery.org/masters Space is limited so please register in advance by calling (785) 587-2726.

Sponsors included ESB Financial, Strecker-Nelson Gallery, City of Manhattan and Manhattan Convention and Visitor Bureau. Flint Hills Masters will be on display through Sunday, January 17, 2016.
