Watkins Museum offers Introduction to Genealogy Class

Lawrence - Introduction to Genealogy Class, Saturday, January 23, 2016, 10 a.m – Noon

Have you been thinking about researching your family history? If so, the Watkins is offering a new program that will help you get started! Two experienced volunteers, Richard and Alisa Branham, will introduce you to the basics of genealogy research through a fun, interactive group presentation, followed by time for conversation and individual consultation.

Richard Branham is a KU professor who has been researching his family history for 40+ years. Alisa is a KU staff member who caught the genealogy "bug" from her husband about 20 years ago; previously she worked for the Kansas State Historical Society. They have traveled across the U.S. and Great Britain to visit their ancestral homes and research in numerous genealogy libraries, historical museums, and local archives.

The Branhams will use a "flipped classroom" model for this class; they will send participants some items to study before class meets so the time together is more productive and aimed at your particular interests. As experienced genealogists and teachers, the Branhams hope this will be a fun class that should help kick-start your own research!

Register using the online form at www.watkinsmuseum.org, or e-mail reservations@watkinsmuseum.org with your name, e-mail address, mailing address and phone number. Enrollment fees are $10 per person, $5 for Douglas County Historical Society members.

For questions contact the museum at 785-841-4109 or online at www.watkinsmuseum.org. The museum is located at 1047 Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence, Kansas.
