Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis visit Westport

The Westport Historical Society is honored to be hosting President Abraham Lincoln (portrayed by Tom Leahy) and First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln (portrayed by Donna Powers) and President Jefferson Davis (portrayed by Richard Heaviland) and First Lady Varina Howell Davis (portrayed by Jennifer McKeithen), at a “Presidential Gala”, Saturday, February 16, 2013 between 2 and 4 p.m. The Gala will be held at the Harris-Kearney House Museum, 4000 Baltimore. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children (12 and under) and tickets will be available at the door.

Both Presidents Lincoln and Davis epitomized the sacrifice and devotion of their respective citizenry during the turmoil of the American Civil War. As national leaders in their own right, both presidents suffered the consequences of history. Enjoy an afternoon discussing with both presidents their careers, family, and pre-1863 events within the pomp-and-circumstance of American political history.

The Presidential Gala is an event in the Westport Historical Society’s ongoing commemoration of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. The Gala is co-sponsored by Park University’s nationally recognized history honor society chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, Zeta Omircon.

The Westport Historical Society celebrates and commemorates the 19th Century when Americans journeyed West to chase their dream. Many chose the town of Westport as the point where they "jumped off" onto the trails and into the great American Wilderness. The Westport Historical Society celebrates the lively history of Westport and its first citizens. The Westport Historical Society actively preserves the unique moment in history of the great Westward Migration by sharing the stories of how Kansas City began and by educating the greater Kansas City community of Westport's role in the shaping of the society in America.
