    Take a Hike Through History on the Burroughs Creek Trail: Unveiling the Trail Interpretive Panels

    A special event at Burroughs Creek Park marks the unveiling of a Hike Through History on the Burroughs Creek Trail, ten new interpretive history panels along 1.7 miles of scenic hiking and biking trail and section of the Lawrence Loop. The interpretive panels along this trail, and also the ones along the Indian Creek Trail in Overland Park, Kansas, were projects of the late Henry Fortunato. Henry walked countless miles.     TAKE A HIKE INTO DOUGLAS COUNTY’S HISTORY!

    The KU Field Station’s Baldwin Woods site will lead a tour on Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. to noon. This tour will focus on the pristine native oak-hickory forest portion of the site, and visitors should expect to see spring ephemeral wildflowers. Meet on N 500 Road, Douglas County, just east of E 1700 Road, 2 miles south of Vinland. Park along N 500 Rd, not on E 1700 Rd which is heavily trafficked. Trails are likely to be muddy; wear appropriate footwear, and bring water, a hat and insect spray....details >>

    Kansas Riverkings Guided Walking Tour and Coffee Discussion

    Kansas Riverkings Museum exhibition provides guided walking tours. Education director, Barbara Higgins-Dover leads a journey into the past when 19th century rivermen worked the waters and sold what they caught to a hungry community. The 40-minute tour includes information about the Riverkings, their fishing cabins and equipment, how they marketed their catch, and the way they lived along the river. Coffee and discussion follows the tour. In the event of rain, the tour will be cancelled....details >>
