Kansas City's Guadalupe Centers: A Century of Serving the Latino Community
This yearlong exhibit chronicles the 100-year history of Kansas City’s Guadalupe Centers, Inc. – and by extension, the history of the city’s thriving Hispanic and Latino community. Orders No. 11 - Desperate Days and Hard Travel: Recollections of Women
On Aug. 25, 1863, General Thomas Ewing issued the most infamous military order of the Civil War in western Missouri. General Orders No. 11 commanded the forced removal of people in four counties, with Bates County being the only one that was totally vacated. The order was highly controversial and there was immediate reaction to the cruelty visited upon the citizens of the region that became known as the Burnt District.
