FFNHA Education Grants

Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area does not want funding to keep you from learning opportunities! Our grants are designed to contribute between $1 and $250 toward helping K-12 grade students learn more regarding the three themes about which we’re passionate (and exist to highlight)! A teacher may benefit from only one of the following Education Grants in each semester of a given school year, though exemptions may apply if the class or student groups are different. You do not have to request the maximum amount. There are no deadlines for applications; rolling requests will be accepted until the year’s funding is gone.

We offer funding options for field trips to our partner site(s) inside the 41 Kansas and Missouri counties of Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area. They must include a minimum of 15 K-12 student participants. Non-partner destinations within the heritage area or smaller groups can potentially be approved on a case-by-case basis.

We know that, even with help, some schools would still struggle to send students to a place to learn about our themes. Therefore, we are also willing to help bring that content to your classroom in the form of speakers or lessons, up to a cost of $250! We may also be able to help send a teacher to a related workshop or program to grow as a professional and bring back new perspectives or updated content to their school. You do not need to request the full amount – even small purchases are eligible! If your request would exceed $250, please contact us with more information to see if we can help you find other options.

FFNHA Project Grants

Established to assist qualified partnering organizations with telling the nationally significant stories of the heritage area’s main themes, FFNHA Project Grants award up to $3,000 for projects that interpret your site’s story and connect it to the heritage area’s rich history.

Other Resources

Extraordinary events in Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area forever changed America. In the nineteenth century, the nation turned its eyes to the Missouri-Kansas border, where peoples with diverse definitions of freedom collided, inciting and fueling a Civil War. The impact of these events is forever woven into the nation’s fabric.
